Mexico's Interior Minister Dies in Plane Crash

Juan Camilo Mourino, the "secretaria de gobernacion", was killed in a plane crash in Mexico City on Tuesday night, along with 12 other people. The Learjet burst into flames before crashing into traffic, crushing cars and scorching buildings around 7:00 on Tuesday evening. A former assistant attorney general and other senior federal advisors also perished in this terrible tragedy.

Mr. Mourino, 37 years old, held the position of "secretaria de gobernacion", essentially the number two spot in the government, similar to the vice president. He was known for his work against organized crime and the drug cartels in Mexico, devoting himself to a more secure Mexico and the fight against violence in the country. He worked closely with President Felipe Calderon and his death has caused shockwaves throughout Mexico.

The Mexican government is leading an inquiry into the crash but at this moment they are insistent that this was an accident and not an act of terrorism as so many rumours have suggested. The investigation may take weeks or months, but initial findings show no indication of foul play. Public opinion indicates that many people feel that it is just too coincidental that the top people in the fight against the cartels were all brought down at once, particularly after threats had been made against their lives. No group has made any claims of participation and no evidence has been brought to light to suggest that this was anything more than a tragic accident.

What if it was neither an accident nor terrorism?

Hmm, what would be between accident and intentional? The latest news really seems to be pretty definite that it was an accident, pilot error or whatever, no evidence (being released) to indicate foul play of any kind.
