Wet n Wild Cancun

Since we had a super quiet New Year's Eve (in bed sober by 10:30), we decided to treat ourselves to a day at Wet N Wild on the first day of 2009. We'd never been before and we were pleasantly surprised by the place. The design made me feel like I'd jumped back in time to the seventies but it was very clean, safe and a whole lot of fun for a three year old. Not many "thrill" rides, I'd be disappointed if I was a teenager (I love me some big rides!) but with Max we were happy in the kiddie area anyway. I knew that they offered Cancunense discounts and had heard 250 pesos, kids free. Turns out it was $25 USD, Max pays too, so it was a pretty steep 1000 pesos to walk in, but at least all the food and drinks were included. The park was not busy, we never felt crowded and not one tourist ticked me off. (Sorry travelers, but you know the bad tourists, you see them too, the obnoxious ones make you as crazy as they make me, I just have to see them more often). Max was on his best behaviour (Hubby too) and we had an exhausting and fun day in the sun.

Here are some pics from our day....

Max's Evil Twin.
He freaked me out more than once in the day.

A Seemingly Useless Giganto Tower

Going Down the Tubes

Looking North to the HZ
(That's me in the shadow!)
The beach is "Mirador Dos", public access

Water Balloon Toss
(Why does it feel so 70's to me?)

Kamikaze Hubby

The Space (toilet) Bowl

Which Way to Birdie Mecca?

Water Fun in the Sun
(playing with curves)

Hasta pronto, hope you are warm and cozy wherever you are.

Canucka, were you even alive in the 70s? It doesn't look 70s at all to me and that was my hey day! Yup disco and all that.
It looks like a lot of fun, but I agree 1000 pesos is a lot of money but compare it to a New Year's party at a hotel, it seems reasonable for the fun you all had.

Hey there. This would be fun sometime. I might be up in Cancun later this week. We should try to meet up.

We took Birdie there for her birthday this year and practically had the place to ourselves. I think there were about 100 people in the whole park. We had a blast. No lines!!!

Beautiful pictures. I have been reading your blog for years and have never seen such great photos. Now I want to go to Wet N' Wild. I never wanted to go there before! Now I gotta go back to the Cun to go to the WNW.

Every time we plan to go over there, it rains! Glad to finally get some good pics of it and an honest account.

And Sweetie, if you actually remember the 70's, I'll eat that sombrero I'm wearing!

Wow that looks better than the one we have in San Diego. Seriously....

Theresa- Yes, this little Canadian was born in 1971 so I do have some clear (albeit childhood) memories of that stylish decade. I realize that I felt very "70's" at the park as I was flashing back to all the road trips my parents took us on, rambling around with the trailer to various water and theme parks throughout Canada and the US. I guess it was a whole sensory flashback, not simply design. And yes, 1000 pesos was a lot but as you say, much less than a big new year's eve party, so we're even (or even a little ahead).

Rosas Clan- Drop me an email, my nickname at gmail, we should plan to meet up.

Michele- I was surprised by how few people were there, it was lovely! No lines as you say, no crowds at the food stands, no pushy pushy in the pools, lovely! Glad Birdie had fun on her birthday, she's such a cool kid.

Anon- Thanks for the kind comment, jump in any time! Lots of reasons to come back to Cancun, WNW is just one.

Gringo- You've got some bad rain luck, we had a beautiful day. And get munching on that sombrero, I remember the 70's well! (I remember wearing a lot of velour and some horrible orange and brown combinations). I have a very clear memory of the day Elvis died (1977) and I will never ever forget Nadia Comaneci in the 1976 Olympics, she was (is?) my hero! (A little salsa or cajeta will help that hat go down....) :)

Heather- I wish there were more "big" slides and rides, but with a small kid it's not much use anyway. Nice clean place though!

HI, i just wandered on your page as i was just looking up wet and wild.

We'll be in Cancun next month 2 adults (no kids) wondering if it's worth going. Even just to try a few things and laze around in a different atmophere??

IslaGringo- How did that hat go down? ;-)

Anon- I think it's a great place to get away from the resort and see something new. The all inclusive plan makes it great, you can eat or drink whenever you want.
